Nerve Conduction Study

A Nerve Conduction Study (NCS) can be an important diagnostic tool for patients experiencing such symptoms as pain radiating from the neck or back, numbness, weakness, or tingling in an arm or leg. It can be performed in our OASD offices, using high-tech electrodiagnostic equipment to stimulate and evaluate nerves and muscles in the affected area of your body.

Some of the most common nerve and muscle problems that can be detected and evaluated by NCS include cervical or lumbar radiculopathy (radiating back pain). This condition can be caused by herniated spinal discs.

Other causes include peripheral neuropathy, or damage to the body's longest nerves. This, in turn, can be caused by a variety of medical conditions, including diabetes.

NCS is also helpful in evaluating causes of common damage to individual nerves, such as carpal tunnel syndrome.
